Perennials, 5–20 cm tall, caespitose; rhizome shortly ascending; sterile shoots short, ascending. Stems ±tufted and ascending, slender, striate; upper part nearly terete, 0.4–0.7 mm in diam.; lower part ±complanate, 0.6–1.0 mm in diam. Cataphylls 4–5, pale brown. Basal leaves 1–3, flat, grass-like, 3–12 cm long, 1.5–2.0 mm wide. Cauline leaves 1–2, with upper one inserted in upper half of stem, 1.5–2.0 mm long, 0.8–1.5 mm wide, not exceeding stem; auricles ±absent. Lower bracts as long as inflorescence, rarely slightly longer, lanceolate, 0.5–1.5 cm long, 0.5–1.0 mm wide, brown. Inflorescence of a single terminal (sometimes a second lateral) usually 2–5-flowered castaneous-brown head. Flowers 6–8 mm long, 1.8–2.2 mm wide; pedicels 1–2 mm. Tepals ovate-lanceolate, acute; inner tepals slightly longer than outer, 3.5–4.5 mm long, 1.0–1.2 mm wide; outer tepals 2.8–3.8 mm long, 0.8–1.0 mm wide, castaneous-brown. Stamens 6, ±not exserted, 2.5–3.5 mm long; anthers shorter than filaments, linear elliptic, ivory-yellow, 1.0–1.2 mm long; filaments 2.0–2.2 mm long, brown; style 1.5–2.5 mm long; stigmas reddish, 3–4 mm long. Capsule unilocular, ovoid-trigonous, shortly rostrate, 3–4 mm long, 1.5–2.0 mm wide, deep brown, slightly exceeding perianth. Seeds unknown.
