Perennials, 5–20 (–30) cm tall, densely caespitose; rhizome very short. Stems erect, terete, 0.2–0.3 mm thick. Cataphylls 1–2; basal leaves 1–2, filiform, 10–25 cm long, sometimes longer than stem. Cauline leaf single, linear, 1–4 cm long, shorter than stem; apex subulate; sheaths 1–1.5 cm long, brown, shining; auricules rounded. Lower bract reduced, to c. 7 mm long, pale brown. Inflorescence anthelate, composed of one sessile flower, with 1–2 lateral branches to 2 cm long, and sometimes a secondary branch present, each single-flowered (inflorescence usually 3–4-flowered); flowers subtended by a pair of bracteoles 2.0–2.5 mm long, ovate, acuminate, subulate, castaneous or scarious. Tepals narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, 4.0–5.5 mm long, 0.8–1 mm wide, yellowish white. Stamens slightly longer than, or as long as perianth, 4–5 mm long; anthers linear-elliptic, white, 1.1–1.8 mm long; filaments 2.0–3.2 mm long; style 1.2–3.0 mm long; stigma 0.5–0.7 mm long; ovary 2.5–2.8 mm long, 0.8–1 m wide. Capsule obovoid-trigonous, subabruptly acuminate, c. 5–8 mm long including a c. 2 mm stylar rostrum, 1.8–2 mm wide, pale brown to castaneous-brown; rostrum exceeding perianth. Seed brown, 0.5–0.6 × 0.2–0.3 mm, or c. 1.3–1.6 mm long including two appendages 0.3–0.5 mm long. Fig. 69.
