Perennials, 20–40 cm tall, slender, loosely caespitose. Rhizome ±short, horizontally creeping, 1.5–2.5 mm in diam., with internodes to 0.5 cm long. Stems decumbent-ascending to erect, thin, often rooting, smooth. Cataphylls 1–2, basally scaly, distally sheath-like, lax, some-times with a filiform blade. Cauline leaves 3–4; lower leaf with a reduced mucronate blade; other leaves with sheaths 2.5–4 (–6) cm long, lax above, broadly bordered membranous; blade not reaching inflorescence, unitubular, perfectly septate, c. 5–12 (–20) cm long, usually 0.7–1.7 mm in diam. Lower bract leaf-like, to c. 4 cm long, much shorter than inflorescence. Inflorescence lax, anthelate; main branches usually 2–4, usually slender, often flexuose, to c. 6 cm long, bearing 7–40 small semiglobose 3–6-flowered heads to 8 mm wide. Tepals ±equal, 2.5–2.8 (–3.5) mm long, lanceolate, acute to mucronate, pale to deep castaneous; central band 3-veined; margins broad, membranous. Stamens 6; anthers 0.6–0.9 mm long; filaments 0.7–1.0 mm long. Capsule unilocular to triseptate, ellipsoid-ovoid, 3.0–3.5 (–4) mm long, exceeding perianth, trigonous, acuminate to acute, castaneous, shining. Seeds obovoid, rounded at the apex, shortly apiculate, c. 0.5 mm long, reticulate; appendages absent.
