Perennials, 3–25 cm tall, loosely caespitose; rhizome short, branched, short-noded, ascending. Stems slender, ascending, complanate, grooved, 0.3–0.5 mm in diam. Cataphyll 1. Basal leaf single on stems with normal flowers, absent from stems with proliferating flowers, subcompressed, unitubular, 2–3 cm long, 0.2–0.4 mm wide, grooved, grass-green; sheaths 1.0–1.5 mm long, stramineous. Leaves on sterile shoots 2–10 cm long, 0.2–0.4 mm wide; sheaths 0.8–1.8 cm long; auricles short, obtuse. Lower bract longer than flowers, 0.5–3.0 cm long. 0.2–0.3 mm wide, grass-green. Inflorescence with normal flowers ±pseudolateral, sessile; flowers 1–3; capitulum bracts 2. Inflorescences with proliferating flowers 3–7-flowered; sheath-like bract absent. Flowers proliferating or not so, sometimes mixed. Normal flowers 0.5–0.8 cm long, 1.2–1.5 mm wide; pedicels 0.3–0.5 mm. Tepals ovate–lanceolate, (2.8–) 4.0–5.5 mm long, 1.0–1.3 mm wide, brown. Stamens 6, shorter than perianth, 2.5–2.8 mm long; anthers longer than filaments, linear-ellipsoid, cream-yellow, 1.6–1.8 mm long; filaments 0.8–0.9 mm long; style 1.5–2.0 mm long; stigmas 2.8–3.0 mm long, pale yellow. Capsule unilocular, ovoid-trigonous, acuminate, rostrate, 3–4 mm long, 1.2–1.5 mm wide. Seeds 0.3–0.35 mm long, 0.9–1.1 mm wide; appendages ±absent. Proliferating flowers 2.5–3.8 mm long, with one inner tepal transformed into a propagule; inner tepals lanceolate, aristate, 1.8–2.5 mm long, 0.5–0.6 mm wide, stamens and ovary reduced.
