An imperfectly studied taxon, related to J. subnodulosus and J. punctorius. The abbreviated rhizome, contracted inflorescence of few flower heads and grey-green colour seem to be diagnostic for J. equisetinus within the group with pluritubular leaves, but further study is needed to elucidate relationships (perhaps an identity) with J. punctorius.
