Perennials, 15–40 cm tall, loosely caespitose; rhizome creeping. Cataphylls loose, brownish; cauline leaves 2–3, flattened, canaliculate-plicate, 3–5 mm wide, septate, with septa ±not visible externally. Lower bract leaf-like, exceeding an inflorescence composed of 1–4 usually 4–8-flowered heads on erect peduncles; capitulum bracts broadly lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 4–5 (–6) mm long, whitish. Flowers 5–7 mm long. Tepals ±unequal, lanceolate, acute, pale castaneous-brown. Stamens 6, c. 4–4.5 mm long; anthers ±equalling filaments. Capsule oblong-ellipsoid (–trigonous), 7–9 (–10) mm long, ±abruptly contracted into a rostrum c. 1 mm long, castaneous-brown. Seeds 0.5–0.8 mm long, or c. 3–4 mm long including appendages.
