Perennials, 0.7–5 cm tall, caespitose; rhizome short, slender, branched. Stem erect, terete, 0.5–0.7 mm thick. Cataphylls 1–2, pale brown, not shining. Basal or sub-basal leaves 2, unitubular, septate, terete, 1–6 cm long, 0.4–0.7 mm wide, grass-green; sheaths 3–5 mm long, brown. Leaves on sterile shoots 1–4 cm long, 0.3–0.6 mm wide; sheaths 3–4 mm long; auricles rounded, to 1 mm long, brownish or membranous. Lower bract erect, 0.8–2.3 cm long, 0.6–0.8 mm wide, grass-green, exceeding flowers. Inflorescence a single ±pseudolateral head 5–8 mm wide; flowers 1–3; bracts 2, longer than flowers; sheath-like bract absent. Flowers 5–9 mm long, 1.5–2.0 mm wide; pedicels 0.6–3.5 mm long. Tepals ±equal, ovate-lanceolate; outer tepals acute, 4–6 mm long, 0.9–1.3 mm wide, castaneous-brown. Stamens 6, shorter than perianth, 2.0–2.3 mm long; anthers shorter than filaments, ellipsoid, cream-yellow, 0.4–0.5 mm long; filaments 1.5–1.7 mm long; style stout, to 1.5 mm long; stigmas long-exserted. Capsule unilocular, ovoid-trigonous, 2.8–3.4 mm long, 1.2–1.3 mm wide, castaneous-brown, acuminate; rostrum c. 0.6 mm long, exserted.
