Perennials c. 15–35 (–45) cm tall, loosely caespitose; rhizome ±horizontal, with internodes abbreviated; shoot bases usually bulbous; stolons ±absent. Basal leaves ±flat to involute, usually 10–19 cm long, 2–3 (–5) mm wide; cauline leaves 1–2, with upper ones to 6 cm long; margins ±densely ciliate, papillose-serrulate, rarely almost smooth; apex obtuse. Lower bract herbaceous, ±erect, c. 1.5–3.0 cm long, shorter than inflorescence. Inflorescence umbelloid, composed of 1 (–3) subsessile and (2–) 3–8 (–11) pedunculate clusters; clusters globose to globose-ovoid, c. (6–) 8–15-flowered, c. 5–8 mm in diam.; peduncles straight, erect to patent, rarely reclinate, slightly to distinctly papillose distally; secondary branches not common. Bracteoles ±ovate, membranous, c. 1.5 mm long, fimbriate. Tepals ±equal, lanceolate, ±acuminate, 2.5–3.3 mm long, castaneous to dark brown; margins usually absent or indistinct, brownish-translucent, rarely paler. Stamens 6; anthers 0.7–1.6 mm long; filaments c. 0.4–0.6 mm long; style 0.6–1.0 mm long; stigmas 1.8–2.5 mm long. Capsule broadly ovoid, ±obtuse, ±equalling perianth, pale brown to castaneous, papillose near the top; capsule segments c. 2.1–2.5 × c. 1.7 mm long.
