Perennials with reduced stem, rhizomatous, turf-forming; rhizomes thin, branched, numerous, creeping-ascending. Leaves (2–) 3–5 (–7) cm long, (1.0–) 1.5–2.0 mm wide, narrowed to c. 0.3 mm near obtuse apex; margins smooth, sparsely hairy. Stem 0.5–1.5 cm long, scarcely (rarely, distinctly) elongating with fruit ripening. Lower bract or the uppermost leaf on the abbreviated stem leaf-like, (4–) 9–25 mm long, usually much exceeding inflorescence. Inflorescence an inconspicuous single 2–10-flowered cluster, rarely with 1–3 lateral small subclusters. Bracteoles scarious, ovate, acuminate, 0.9–1.4 (–1.8) mm long, almost entire, irregularly denticulate above. Tepals equal, glabrous, lanceolate, acuminate, usually (1.5–) 1.8–2.5 mm long; midrib reddish castaneous-brown to dark brown; margins silvery or cream-membranous, broad, distinct. Stamens 6; anthers 0.2–0.6 mm long; filaments (0.6–) 0.9–1.1 mm long; style (0.2–) 0.4–0.6 mm long; stigmas (0.9–)1.2–1.8 (–2.6) mm long. Capsule obovoid, subobtuse, pale brown, ±exceeding perianth; capsule segments (1.5–) 1.8–2.4 × 1.0–1.4 mm.
