Perennials, (5–) 7–10 (–19) cm tall, densely caespitose; rhizome short; stolons absent. Basal leaves narrow, canaliculate to ±involute, to c. 4–5 cm long, 1.0–1.5 (–2.0) mm wide; cauline leaf usually 1, to c. 3.5 cm long; margins sparsely papillose, sparsely ciliate (or densely at base); apex obtuse to subobtuse. Lower bract herbaceous, erect, patent or recurved, to c. 2.5 cm long, longer than inflorescence. Inflorescence a single congested head 0.7–1.0 cm long, of 1–3 indistinct sessile 10–18-flowered clusters. Bracteoles ovate, scarious, ciliate, c. 1 mm long. Tepals ±equal, ovate-lanceolate, c. 1.9–2.4 mm long; outer tepals acuminate; inner tepals ±acute, brown or castaneous-brown; margins broad, translucent to scarious. Stamens 6; anthers 0.4–0.6 mm long; filaments 0.6–0.8 mm long; style c. 0.2 mm long; stigmas c. 1.0 mm long. Capsule ovoid-ellipsoid, acute, castaneous-brown, papillose, shorter than or subequalling perianth; capsule segments 1.5–1.8 × 0.9–1.0 mm. Seeds brown, c. 1.0 mm long, 0.5–0.6 mm wide; appendage c. 0.1 mm long, fibrillate.
