Perennials, 3–12 cm tall, slender, densely caespitose; rhizome very short. Stems erect, terete, 0.2–0.3 mm in diam. Cataphylls 0–2, straw-brown. Basal leaves 1–2 (–3), bitubular, filiform, c. 2–7 cm long; sheaths tight, 1–2 cm long, straw-brown, with margins membranous; auricles scarious or membranous, to c. 0.5 mm long. Cauline leaf single, shorter than stem; apex obtuse, ±swollen to almost bilobed. Inflorescence subtended by an ovate scarious acute bract 2–4 mm long, usually of a single terminal flower, sometimes of a terminal 2–3-flowered head, rarely with a lateral one-flowered branch. Flowers ±sessile. Tepals ±equal, narrowly lanceolate, to 3.8 mm long, 0.5–0.9 mm wide, subacute, slightly cucullate, with a prominent midrib, yellowish white to pale stramineous. Stamens 6, longer than the perianth, exserted, to 3.8 mm long; anthers ±linear-ellipsoid, white, 0.5–0.8 mm long; style 0.3–0.8 (–1.2) mm long; stigmas 0.4–0.6 mm long. Capsules obvoid-trigonous, unilocular, to 4.5 mm long, ±abruptly acuminate, exceeding to equalling perianth. Seeds 0.4–0.5 mm long, c. 0.2 mm wide, brown, or c. 1 mm long with two subequal appendages 0.2–0.3 mm long.
